The Hedgehog Boot Scraper is a heavy mild steel boot scraper: a solid plate with a hedgehog cut-out, on twin ground spikes, whose straight bottom edge is the blade for scraping mud from your soles.
It is a practical thing with a bit of character. Drag your boot along the straight bottom edge of the plate after a muddy walk, a morning on the allotment or a wet football match, and more of the mud stays outside instead of in the hallway.
Because it takes real force, we cut it from 6 mm mild steel, the thickest material in our garden range. It measures 360 mm wide by 470 mm high, and two 275 mm ground spikes drive into the soil to hold it firm.
Place it by the back door, at the end of the garden path, beside a porch or by a farmhouse gate. The spikes want a patch of soil or a border edge rather than paving.
Choose raw steel or satin black. Raw steel will rust to an orange-brown patina outdoors, and constant scraping keeps the blade edge bright while the body weathers; runoff can stain paving nearby. Satin black is a durable coloured finish, though the scraping edge will wear with use, as you would expect.

How do I install it?
