Custom Plasma Cutting and Bespoke Metalwork

If you can't find exactly what you need in the Metalwork shop, we can usually make it. Metal Plasma Cutting is a CNC plasma cutting and fabrication workshop in Knowsley, Merseyside, and custom work is what we do every day, from a single house sign to a batch of brackets for a trade customer.

What we can make

  • Custom sizes of our shop designs: a fence topper to fit an odd-length run, a privacy screen for a particular gap, a gate made to your opening.

  • Gates and gate infills: plasma-cut infill panels on their own, or complete gates fabricated and welded in our workshop.

  • Signs and lettering: house names, business signs, numbers and plaques in stencil lettering.

  • Garden and home pieces: silhouettes, wall art, screens, planter panels and brackets drawn from your idea or photo.

  • Parts and plates: flat profiles, base plates, gussets, brackets and flanges cut from your drawing, in one-offs or batches.

Materials and thickness

We cut mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium, and also work with brass and copper. We cut from 1 mm up to 25 mm thick, to a tolerance of ±0.5 mm. The largest single part we can cut is [CONFIRM: maximum sheet or bed size]. Most decorative garden pieces work well in 3 mm or 4 mm mild steel. If you're not sure what thickness you need, tell us what the piece has to do and we'll suggest one.

Finishes

Custom pieces can be supplied as raw steel, with a rust patina, in a powder-coated finish such as satin black or anthracite grey, or in high-heat black for fire items. For other powder-coat colours, ask us: [CONFIRM: whether other RAL colours are offered]. Raw mild steel will rust outdoors to an orange-brown patina, and the run-off can stain paving or render below it.

What to send us

The more we know, the quicker and more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Sizes: overall width and height in millimetres, and for gates, the opening measured at the top, middle and bottom.

  • Thickness and material, if you know them.

  • Finish: raw, rust patina, powder coat colour or high-heat black.

  • Quantity: one-off or how many.

  • Drawings or artwork: DXF or SVG files are ideal. PDFs, photos and hand sketches with dimensions are fine too.

  • Where it's going and how it will be fixed, such as screwed to a fence, bolted to brick or free-standing.

  • Any deadline, such as a birthday or a build date.

Design notes for artwork

Plasma cutting has a few limits. Lettering needs to be at least 25 mm tall and is best in a stencil style, so the centres of letters like O, A and R stay attached. Every shape must connect back to the main piece, and very fine lines or tiny holes won't survive. Don't worry if your drawing doesn't follow these rules yet. We'll tell you what needs changing.

Custom and made-to-measure pieces are made to your specification, so they can't be returned for a change of mind. Your statutory rights for faulty items are not affected. See our returns page for details.
