Metalwork FAQ
Answers to the questions we're asked most about our plasma-cut metalwork. If yours isn't here, email info@metalplasmacutting.co.uk or call 0151 547 1221, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Where is your metalwork made?
Every piece is made to order in our Knowsley workshop, near Liverpool. We cut each design on our own CNC plasma table, clean up the edges and finish it before packing. Read more about how it's made.
How long will my order take?
Each piece is made to order in our Knowsley workshop, and we'll confirm your dispatch date by email. If you need it for a particular date, email us before ordering and we'll tell you whether we can make it in time.
What is it made from?
Mild steel. Most panels, signs, stakes and wall art are 3 mm thick, the fire pits, BBQ stand and cut-out numerals are 4 mm, and heavier pieces such as shelf brackets and the boot scraper are cut from thicker plate. Each product page lists its exact thickness and approximate weight.
Will it rust?
Raw steel will rust outdoors to an orange-brown patina. Rust patina pieces arrive already weathered. Satin black and anthracite grey are powder coated for a durable coloured finish. See care and finishes.
Will rust stain my patio or render?
It can. Rain washes rust off raw and patina steel, and the run-off can stain pale paving, render, stone and decking. Place raw pieces over gravel, soil or planting, or choose powder coat where staining would matter.
Can you make a custom size or design?
Yes. We can make most designs in other sizes, gates to fit your opening, and completely bespoke pieces from your drawing or photo. Send the details through our custom metalwork quote form.
Will I see a proof of my personalised text?
We cut exactly what you enter at checkout, in capitals, in the stencil font you choose, so please double-check spelling and spacing. Each personalised product shows its character limit. Letters are at least 25 mm tall, so longer text won't shrink to fit.
Can I return a personalised item?
Personalised and made-to-measure items are made to order and can't be returned for a change of mind. If anything arrives faulty or damaged, you're covered by your statutory rights. See returns and cancellations.
Can I return a standard item?
Yes. You can cancel most orders for standard items within 14 days of delivery, then return the item within a further 14 days. Full details are on our returns page.
How much is delivery?
Delivery is charged by the total weight of your order, and heavy items such as gates and screens travel by pallet. See our delivery page for weight bands and prices.
Do you deliver to the Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland?
We deliver across the UK mainland. For the Scottish Highlands and Islands and Northern Ireland: [CONFIRM: whether Highlands, Islands and NI are served, and any surcharge].
Are fixings included?
Every piece has pre-cut fixing holes, sized on the product page. Screws, plugs and posts are usually not included. Gate hinges and latches are not included. See our assembly and fixing guides.
Do the fire pits need tools to put together?
No. Our slot-together fire pits need no tools or welding: four panels interlock and the base plate tabs lock through the side slots. Once cold, they come apart for flat storage.
Can I use a fire pit on decking or grass?
No. Use it on a non-flammable surface such as paving or gravel, away from fences, sheds and overhanging branches. Never leave a fire unattended, and let it cool fully before moving it. Read our fire pit safety guide.
Can I pick up my order from the workshop?
[CONFIRM: whether collection from the Knowsley workshop is offered, and how to arrange it]
Do you sell to trade customers?
Yes. Alongside the shop, we cut parts and batches to drawings for trade customers. Tell us what you need through our custom metalwork form. [CONFIRM: whether trade pricing is offered on shop products]
