The Hawthorn Metal Side Gate is a full-height 1800 mm garden gate with a plasma-cut mild steel infill of winding hawthorn branches, lobed leaves and clusters of haws. It comes in 900 mm or 1000 mm widths, either as a complete welded gate or as the infill panel only.
A side gate is often the first thing visitors see, and a hedgerow pattern makes the path round to the back garden feel like a country lane. It suits a brick-pillared passage between semis, a gap in a hedge, or the entrance to a walled kitchen garden. The branches are dense enough to deter a casual glance while still showing a glimpse of green beyond.
The complete welded gate is fabricated and welded in our workshop, with the 3 mm hawthorn infill set into a steel box-section frame. Hinges and latch are not included, so you can pick hardware to suit your posts or brickwork. If you already have a frame, or a fabricator on hand, choose infill panel only: 3 mm plate sized to weld or bolt into your own frame.
Finishes are satin black, anthracite grey or raw steel. Satin black and anthracite grey are powder coated for a durable coloured finish. Raw steel will rust outdoors to an orange-brown patina, and rust run-off can stain a pale path or step below.
Keep hinges lubricated and wash coated finishes now and then. Your gate is made to order in our Knowsley workshop, and we'll confirm your dispatch date by email.

What is the difference between the two build options?

Will the raw steel gate rust?
Yes. Raw mild steel rusts to an orange-brown patina outdoors, and run-off can stain a pale path or step beneath it.
