Hawthorn Plasma-Cut Fence Topper – Mild Steel

from £64.99

The Hawthorn Fence Topper is a plasma-cut mild steel panel that sits along the top of an existing fence, adding a band of winding hawthorn branches, lobed leaves and clusters of haws. It is cut from 3 mm steel and comes in two lengths: 1830 × 450 mm to match a standard 6 ft fence panel, or 915 × 450 mm for a 3 ft run or a short return.

Hawthorn has lined British field boundaries for centuries, so this design feels at home above a cottage-garden border, along a boundary that backs onto open fields, or on top of a close-board fence where you want a little extra height without the heaviness of a solid wall. Against a pale sky the branches read as a crisp silhouette, and with a climber trained through the gaps the steel starts to look like part of the hedge.

There are three finishes. Raw steel arrives bare and will rust outdoors to an orange-brown patina, which plenty of people choose on purpose for a rustic look; bear in mind that rust run-off can mark light paving or render below. Satin black and anthracite grey are powder coated for a durable coloured finish.

Fixing is straightforward. The 40 mm bottom rail has pre-cut Ø8 mm holes, five on the 6 ft size and four on the 3 ft, ready to screw down onto the top rail of a timber fence or onto your posts. Use exterior-grade screws that suit your fence.

Care is minimal: give powder-coated panels a wipe with warm soapy water now and then, and simply let raw steel weather. Every topper is made to order in our Knowsley workshop, and we'll confirm your dispatch date by email.

Questions

Will the raw steel version rust?
Yes. Raw mild steel rusts outdoors to an orange-brown patina. It is a look many people want, but rust run-off can stain pale paving, render or timber directly beneath, so choose satin black or anthracite grey if that matters to you.

How do I fix it to my fence?
Screw through the pre-cut Ø8 mm holes in the 40 mm bottom rail into the top rail of your fence or into the posts. There are five holes on the 1830 mm size and four on the 915 mm size. Screws are not included.

Which size do I need?
The 1830 mm length lines up with a standard 6 ft fence panel and the 915 mm length suits a 3 ft section. Both are 450 mm tall.

Can you make a custom size?
Yes. If you need a different width, height or layout, send us the details through our Custom Plasma Cutting quote form and we'll come back to you with a price.
